Virtual Tournament Date: Saturday, November 14, 2020
 – 10:00am start time for ages 13 and under
 – 11:00am start time for 14+ years old

What is a Virtual Tournament (of Knowledge)?
Since we can’t test your physical judo skills, we’ll test your judo knowledge.  The tournament will be a competition to determine who possesses deep judo knowledge.  Contestants will be presented with a series of multiple-choice questions via Zoom, and participants have a limited amount of time to provide the correct responses.  We hope to make it a fun experience.

We recommend that participants use two devices (such as a computer and a mobile phone or tablet) to access both Zoom and Kahoot at the same time.  For example, you can have Zoom on your computer and Kahoot on your phone.

You can also download the Kahoot app to your phone or tablet.  If you have not used Kahoot before, we recommend you test it out prior to the actual tournament.

The tournament will last roughly 20-25 minutes.

What kinds of questions should I expect?

Participants will be tested on their knowledge of the English and Japanese names of various judo throws, mat holds and other judo techniques.  There will be questions about tournament terminology, rules and scoring as well as judo history.

How does Kahoot determine the winners?

Participants are awarded a specific number of points for a correct answer and how quickly the question was answered correctly.  Points are awarded after each question and Kahoot keeps track of who is leading during the tournament.

Is there an entry fee?

No.  This event is free.  We just ask that you act respectfully and responsibly when participating.  Parents/Guardians: Please monitor your little ones.

Do I have to wear my judo gi?

No, but if you haven’t put on your judo gi in a while, this is a good excuse to put it on!  There may even be bonus points for wearing it.

Are there divisions and prizes?
There will be two divisions:

·         Junior (ages 13 and under)

·         Intermediate & Senior (ages 14+)

Prizes will be awarded to 1st, 2nd and 3rd place within each division:

·         1st place: Mizuno Competition Gi

·         2nd place: $100 Target gift card

·         3rd place: $50 Target gift card

Thank you to Hatashita Sports for donating the judo gis.

How do I register for the tournament?

Fill out the registration form by November 13th.  We will send out an email with all the details including the Zoom participation link the day before the event.

I have more questions.  Who can I ask?
Send an email to info@paloaltojudo.com and we’ll be happy to provide any additional information.

We hope you can participate.  It should be a lot of fun!  Looking forward to “seeing” everyone.

Stay healthy,

The Palo Alto Judo Club
